STEP TWO OF FOUR

Importing the demo content

One click, and the whole site arrives.

This is the step that turns a blank WordPress into the Romy demo. It takes a minute or two, and it only adds - nothing you already have is deleted or overwritten. It is safest on a brand new site, where the result matches the demo exactly.

WHAT GETS ADDED

Everything in the demo

THE PACKAGE CONTAINS

Pages   —   5 - Home, About, Journal, Shop My Picks and Contact

Blog posts   —   6 posts in 4 categories: Lifestyle, Fashion, Travel and Beauty

Images   —   14 labelled placeholders, plus the Romy logo, the sprig decorations and the site icon

Theme Builder   —   5 templates, with the header, the footer and the Contact page footer

ShopCard   —   12 sample picks in 4 collections, with example.com links ready for your own

Design   —   the colour palette, the fonts, design variables and module presets

Site setup   —   the main menu, the top-bar category menu, the home page setting and post-name permalinks

STEP ONE

Open the importer

Go to Appearance › Import Demo Content. The screen only appears while Romy is the active theme.

STEP TWO

Upload the package

Choose romy-demo-content.zip and click Upload and unpack. Upload it zipped, exactly as you downloaded it.

STEP THREE

Choose what you want

Five options, all on by default:

  • Import the blog posts and their categories - the six sample posts. Turn this off if you would rather start your blog from scratch; the Journal and category pages will simply be empty until you publish your own.
  • Set up the menus and the front page - puts the main menu in the header’s menu location and makes Home your front page. The two menus are built either way, because the header layout uses them.
  • Switch permalinks to post name - the address format the demo uses.
  • Move WordPress’s sample page and post to the trash - otherwise Hello world! sits among your posts.
  • Publish WordPress’s Privacy Policy page - the footer links to it, and WordPress creates it as a draft.

Then click Import demo content and confirm.

STEP FOUR

Watch it run

A progress bar shows each stage - images, colours and settings, ShopCard picks, pages, posts, menus, Theme Builder - and the log lists what it has done. Leave the tab open until it finishes.

STEP FIVE

Check the result

When the log says it has finished, visit your site. It should look like the demo, with a labelled placeholder wherever a photograph of yours will go.

Four things to know

THE PRODUCT CARDS NEED SHOPCARD

Activate ShopCard before you import, so the sample picks and collections arrive ready to use. If you imported without it and the Home, About and Shop My Picks pages show gaps where the cards should be, install it from shopcard.zip; if the cards are still missing, open a support ticket rather than importing again.

HOUSEKEEPING

You can delete the uploaded package from wp-content/uploads/romy-demo - it is not needed again. The contact form sends to your site’s admin email address until you change it, and the newsletter sign-up is not connected to an email service yet. Both are covered in the contact form and newsletter.

THE SHOP LINKS ARE EXAMPLES

Every ShopCard pick links to example.com. Replace each one with your own product or affiliate link under ShopCard › Items before you publish. The photographs are labelled placeholders too, so nothing in the demo is someone else’s product or picture.

DO NOT RUN THE IMPORT TWICE

A second run creates a second copy of every page, post and ShopCard pick. If something went wrong, open a support ticket rather than re-importing.
