STEP TWO OF FOUR

Importing the demo content

One click, and the whole site arrives.

This is the step that turns a blank WordPress into the Nicole demo. It takes a minute or two, and it only adds - nothing you already have is deleted or overwritten. It is safest on a brand new site, where the result matches the demo exactly.

WHAT GETS ADDED

Everything in the demo

THE PACKAGE CONTAINS

Pages   —   6 - Home, About, Recipes, Recipe Index, Kitchen Favourites and Contact

Recipes   —   10 recipes in 4 categories: Breakfast, Mains, Desserts and Breads

Images   —   35 food placeholders, plus 12 labelled placeholders for the Kitchen Favourites products

Theme Builder   —   4 templates, with the header and footer layouts

Divi Library   —   the two ad slots, as Global modules

Design   —   the colour palette, the fonts, design variables and module presets

Site setup   —   the main menu, the home page setting and post-name permalinks

STEP ONE

Open the importer

Go to Appearance › Import Demo Content. The screen only appears while Nicole is the active theme.

STEP TWO

Upload the package

Choose nicole-food-blog-demo-content.zip and click Upload and unpack. Upload it zipped, exactly as you downloaded it.

STEP THREE

Choose what you want

Five options, all on by default:

  • Import the recipes and their categories - the ten sample recipes. Turn this off if you would rather start your blog from scratch; the recipe grids will simply be empty until you publish your own.
  • Set up the menu and the front page - builds the main menu and makes Home your front page.
  • Switch permalinks to post name - the address format the demo uses.
  • Move WordPress’s sample page and post to the trash - otherwise Hello world! sits among your recipes.
  • Publish WordPress’s Privacy Policy page - the footer links to it, and WordPress creates it as a draft.

Then click Import demo content and confirm.

STEP FOUR

Watch it run

A progress bar shows each stage - images, colours and settings, the ad slots, pages, recipes, Theme Builder, menu - and the log lists what it has done. Leave the tab open until it finishes.

STEP FIVE

Check the result

When the log says it has finished, visit your site. It should look like the demo, with labelled placeholders on the Kitchen Favourites page and in the “What you’ll need” panels.

AFTERWARDS

Four things to know

THE RECIPE CARDS NEED THE PLUGIN

If the recipes show their story and photos but no card, the Recipe Card plugin is not active yet. Install it from recipe-card-for-divi.zip and the cards appear - there is no need to import again.

HOUSEKEEPING

You can delete the uploaded package from wp-content/uploads/nicole-demo - it is not needed again. The contact form sends to a placeholder address until you change it, and the newsletter sign-up is not connected to anything yet. Both are covered in the contact form and newsletter.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE YOURS TO KEEP

The food photographs shown in the demo came from Foodiesfeed and are free for you to download from there and to use on your site, so the demo looks finished from the first minute. Swap them for your own as you go. Only the Kitchen Favourites products are placeholders.

DO NOT RUN THE IMPORT TWICE

A second run creates a second copy of every page and recipe. If something went wrong, open a support ticket rather than re-importing.
